Residential building on Via Corio

The project area is located in the Campidoglio district, on Via Corio, within an environmental zone. The intervention involves the demolition of an existing building and the following construction of a small residential block.

The new building consisting of apartments with private courtyards on the ground floor and large balconies on the first floor, integrates into the distinctive context of a working-class neighborhood that emerged in the mid-nineteenth century, where the urban landscape is mostly characterized by low-rise houses of 3-4 stories above ground.

The design intention is to position the building in an intermediate space between tradition and innovation. The project envisions a small-scale building, in line with the historic character of the neighborhood, developed over two above-ground floors plus an attic level. It recalls some early twentieth-century features, such as a plaster cornice and the traditional form of dormer windows, while at the same time offering a fresher image that meets contemporary needs with the inclusion of external sliding metal shutters and a protruding staircase block clad in metal sheeting.
